Ever waited way too long to see the movie everyone is raving about, the one that critics cant stop touting, only to find yourself asking “What’s all the fuss about?” This is exactly how we felt finally eating at Peter Chang’s. Just don’t see what the hype is all about. We were underwhelmed.
What we did like: It is really easy (as with most ethnic food) to eat vegan. We got the Veggie Spring Rolls, Shredded Pumpkin with Chili Peppers, and Pan Noodles with mixed vegetables.
The spring rolls were pretty typical, nothing to brag about. It is always odd that when you order an appetizer to be shared, you almost always get 3. We are good at sharing but these things are not very big. We were really intrigued by the shredded pumpkin, nice to have an option that is completely new to us. The presentation was pleasing, mainly due to the colors, and the flavor was good. We were hoping for more intense flavor but it was pretty subtle. The chilies seemed to be bell peppers and didn’t add much. There were whole slices of garlic, though – never a bad thing.
The pan noodles with veggies were only okay. The sauce was the tastiest part, and it was much better the next day. The veggies were the standard call - broccoli, carrots, onion, snow peas, water cress (the boring celery of Chinese food, basically a filler), mushrooms, celery, green peppers, asparagus, and garlic. We asked for it as spicy as they could make it and yet we were underwhelmed.
What was overwhelming was the portions – we had a ton of food! We were happy to see how much we got for the price (very reasonable) and leftover Chinese food is always a good thing.
