There are a three places in town that I generally don’t like as much as everyone else I know: Beer Run, Continental Divide, and Tip Top. I want to like them. I want to meet our friend Dave at Continental Divide and talk about kung fu over Red Hot Blues. I’d like to meet Whit at Beer Run and talk about religion over chicken wings. Maybe Paul and I could meet at Tip Top and talk about the city over shawarmas. Actually, this last one will definitely happen. Because I’m here to tell you, people: The shawarmas are where it’s at, yo. Tip Top is coming off my list of overrated places.
Erin asked me why it was so good and I had difficulty describing it. The flat bread is flaky and buttery without being too heavy or too delicate. The thinly sliced lamb is salty and lean (though one bite each visit is always a touch fattier than I’d like). To cool it all down and glue it all together, there’s the fresh lettuce and zany tzatziki. Secretly, it’s all about the tzatziki. They don’t even mention it in the description but it’s doing most of the work here. And it does extremely well. Give it a try if you haven’t already, and let me know what you think! In the meantime, I’ll be working on finding things to get excited about at Beer Run and Continental Divide.
