So, I was sitting there eating this black and white cookie, talking to my girl, when I stopped mid-sentence and was like, “Holy crap, dude. This cookie is outrageously delicious!” That’s when she looked up at me with those wild, sugar-crazed tiger eyes of hers and said, “No way your cookie is as good as my macaroon. This coconut is off the hook, yo! Moist and crispy all at once!” Then we jumped on our horses and chased each other around and around the block, yippeeing and yee-hawing all the way. In the end I caught up to her and she was forced to admit that the black & white was better than the macaroon. <End dramatization. Bows to uproarious applause. Signs book deal.> Seriously, though…
All the pastries we tried at Penne Lane were excellent – as in, our new favorite thing – except for the chocolate chip cookie, which was utterly forgettable. The black & white, which is less like a cookie and more like a very large, compressed cupcake, is a decadent disc of deliciousness. The yellow cake is moist and fluffy, the frosting is thick and rich. What else can I say? Num num num num num.
More details about Penne Lane coming soon.

How is Penne Lane otherwise, you ask? We'll write a full review soon, but it's a nice little space, rustic, with too little room to sit and too much to stand, but otherwise charming. We've received mixed reports about the sandwiches, but the chicken salad, with delicately crunchy slivers of almond, is one of my favorites in town. Expect a chicken salad cage match before long…

MMMMM, looks delicious. Maybe I'll have to add a black & white to Sweet Vivi's menu.

Penne Lane is gross. They claim to have boar’s head roast beef, but it’s not at all. Head to belair, take it away, or even bagby’s to get WAY better quality meat.

We’re working on a Best in Chow sandwich smack down. There’s some heavy competition in this town!
