Unfortunately, we’ve both been back recently and our experiences were mostly the same. On my most recent visit, one dish was really good, one was really not very good, and everything else was average. We can’t say we didn’t give it a try. But we always like to see places that are loved and support by the community, so I have nothing but well wishes for you and your team, Bashir!

I sort of took a jab at you there in retrospect. I respect your light response. But I do argue that the food IS spectacular enough to provoke such a defense on my part. The lamb and tuna are amazing as are all of his meats, and the salads compliment them SO well!

I think the ham is amazing for dinner, though I’m pretty sure it does not come with brie then. Also, I tend to go for the bellydancing (both to participate and to watch!) There is a new(-ish) Student Night, 1st Tuesday of every month with cheap dinner specials and $3 cover for a great bellydance show!

It has been interesting to see such vitriol coming out to meet this review, as well as the suspiciously similar superlatives on Charlottesville-Dining.com. I’d like to think it’s because Bashir himself seems to be a great and generous man. It’s hard to imagine it’s really in defense of the food, which, even if general consensus agrees is better than our review suggests, is definitely not so spectacular as to compel this kind of passion. Regardless, it’s fair to say that “blah” is not the best and most descriptive word to describe anything, and also fair to say that our time might be better spent elsewhere. But that’s the beauty of the blogosphere! You can take our reviews with a grain of salt because what do we know? We just like what we like, which will certainly be different from what some other people like. Speaking of which, for my money, Aromas is the best Mediterranean in Charlottesville. But we’ll be back to try Bashir’s again one of these days. Maybe a falafel cage match is in order…

Bashir’s is the best Mediterranean food in Cville. Please use more adjectives to describe food then just “blah”, if you cannot, I recommend blogging about something other than food.

Try Bashir's sandwiches and salads for lunch. They're reasonably priced, generously-sized, and absolutely delicious. Bashir is also a great neighbor to local businesses and frequently donates food for special events. I've also heard great things about his catering business!

Unfortunately, it really was mediocre (for all four of us). But we always like to hear that other people have had better experiences. We'll definitely go back for dinner and hope for a better meal!

This must be a joke, Bashir's food rated as mediocre .I have been eating at this place when it was a hole in the wall. i go there for lunch on a regular basis and the place is always packed which makes me question the accuracy of some comment posted here and who suggested other restaurant with 'better" food than Bashir's. Kathy and Bashir do fusion or cross cultural cooking as they say. they are very creative and make everything from scratch. I do not think that they are perfect but their food is awesome. we had them cater my dad's retirement. my sister's wedding rehearsal. oh by the way try charlotetsvilledining.com and you'll see a real depiction of this great esatblishment

i enjoyed lunch the couple of times i went there (i think i had the ham & brie–but i take my sandwiches apart to eat them), & there were quite a few other customers both times. it's definitely not on my short list though.
