When the sun is shining and the temperature is warm, there’s nothing like a weekend brunch at La Taza. The patio is large, scenic, and dog-friendly. The coffee is strong, delicious, and fair trade. The juice comes with champagne (if you want it), and the food has a Latin American flair.
Humbly called a coffee house, I think La Taza has one of the more interesting brunch menus in town. Their Huevos Benicio is potatoes layered with ham, pepper jack cheese, and eggs covered in salsa and sour cream with tortillas on the side, while the Machaca includes scrambled eggs, peppers, tomatoes, cheese, tortillas, and a choice of chorizo, spiced beef, or bacon. There are also more traditional options such as pancakes or El Gringo (eggs, potatoes, and toast), but even if you go the traditional route be sure to order the plantains on the side. Some dishes shine more than others, but the ingredients always taste fresh.
My favorite order is the Chilaquiles, which basically means nachos for breakfast. If you order one of their rich lattés with it, this basically means nachos and a milkshake for breakfast. Which is brilliant. You can even order this with soy sausage and therefore congratulate yourself on ordering such a healthy dish thanks to your willpower, nutritional prowess, and all-around awesomeness.
Yes, the service can be pretty bad and unfriendly, but this seems to matter less when you’re sitting in the sun pondering what to do for a lazy weekend day. Indoor weather makes it less of a destination spot, but there are always the nachos.
Jed says: “Great on a nice day but maybe not worth it if you have to sit inside.”

I also love that you can add pineapple to their veggie quesadilla. No upcharge, and makes it even more tasty.

I have to say that La Taza is only good in theory. I have had so many bad experiences there I have decided to never waste my time there again. Although the place looks amazing and the menu looks great they consistently do not show up. Each and every time myself and my friends have gone we have been given the wrong food, cold food that should be warm, menu items missing key ingredients, and drinks that have gotten lost on their way to us. The other consistent item is that the service has almost always been awful, slow and incompetent. I enjoy many restaurants and La Taza is on my short list of establishments that I will not go to anymore.

Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. I'm planning to go there this Friday, because I have a meeting and that is the place where I will do the meeting. I don't want my clients disappointed in me for choosing a bad cafe.
