Tip Top is a convenient walk from Fontana and the food & service are consistent. With kids, we find the variety appealing - they really have something for everyone. I agree the food is average at best but the price is right.

My last trip to Tip Top was a huge disappointment, too. My food was edible, at least. My friend ordered ham and eggs. The ham was way too tough and way too salty to eat. I mean ridiculously salty. The waitress was too busy calling us sweetheart to notice he hadn't touched his ham; never even asked us if the food was ok. It wasn't.

Oooo you're right, I forget about La Taza! La Taza does have them beat and honestly a lot better cup of coffee too.

That's good to hear it may have just been an off day. Like I said, there's such a loyal Tip Top following that we'll give it another shot. But on that day, it honestly was one of the worst breakfasts I've had in C-ville, hence the sad 1.5 star rating. Tavern and La Taza (review coming soon) have both earned 4 stars plus in my book for breakfast, and Bluegrass is way up there as well. Thanks for the insider ordering tips - would love to hear more if anyone has them - we'll definitely return to try them out and see if things turn around!

It's good to hear the good reviews -- we wanted to like it a lot more than we did. Hopefully future visits will yield better results!

Y'all just caught them on a bad day. You have to give them another try, ESPECIALLY for breakfast. I couldn't understand why everyone loved the place so much until recently, you have to know how to order here though, cause it's a bit tricky. Next time go with the buckwheat pancakes and add pecans, so worth it! And the biscuits are definitely the better option over the toast. I love that they have real butter, not the stuff packed with all the fake ingredients I can't pronounce. I think you were a bit harsh 1 1/2 stars???! What breakfast place in Charlottesville gets 5?

Good point Molly! That's even sadder than I first realized. I'll have to seek out all three this weekend to recover.
